Video Projects

Video is a creative way for me to explore an ever-expanding range of interests from organizing and activism to visual arts, music, agroecology and food sovereignty. I direct, produce, edit and shoot videos independently and in collaboration with other videographers and film makers. My videos are often done for and with organizations I support; many are about my family.

Most of my work is available online on Vimeo and YouTube (see links below); a few pieces are only on DVDs.

People and Potatoes
El pueblo y la papa / Runakuna papakuna

This is an ongoing project exploring history, farming, and community - potatoes as a down-to-earth (couldn't resist) way to look at colonization, resistance, globalization, diversity, autonomy, and people to people connections. So far, I've filmed in New Hampshire and Peru, but the potato has traveled all over the world!

The Brides March
El desfile de las novias

In 2013 I made a short video with versions in English and in Spanish to publicize the New York Latinas Against Domestic Violence Brides March. I am currently filming and editing a longer video about the March, which continues to take place on September 26 in New York City, commemorating Gladys Ricart and other women, children and men who have died at the hands of abusive partners.

Art Work

For the past 12 years, I've been making short videos (from 3 to 15 minutes) about my sister, the sculptor Wendy Klemperer, and other artists. Wendy is a sculptor, working primarily in welded steel, using rebar and other scrap metal to create life-size and larger animal sculptures. The process of cutting and welding is visually (and aurally) striking, as is the labor involved in moving and installing the larger works.

Chemistry

This is a more recent project about my parents, who met in a college chemistry lab in 1948, and stayed committed to each other and to science for the rest of their lives.
