My goal as consultant, coach, and human being, is to contribute to social, racial, and economic justice.
Before becoming a consultant, in my 30+ years in the non-profit world I directed projects, programs and capacity building in areas including domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, women's rights, immigrants' rights, education and training, youth programs, access to justice, and community technology. I speak fluent Spanish and have worked extensively in Spanish-speaking communities.
I'm a confirmed generalist. Drawing on my wide-ranging experience, I provide capacity-building expertise and guidance to help social justice non-profits and grassroots organizations develop clarity, capacity, and strategies to have the impact they seek.
My commitment to social justice work began in High School, when I participated in antiwar activities with organizers from local colleges and volunteered with welfare rights organizations, women’s organizations and racial justice groups. While in college at UC Berkeley, I worked at the community women’s center and continued to work there after graduation until I moved back East and became a organizer in Spanish-speaking communities in New Bedford and in Boston, Massachusetts. After returning to Berkeley to earn a master's degree in City Planning, I moved to New York City and helped develop a community-based women's center in East Harlem. I've been a New Yorker ever since.
As a consultant, my approach is often that of coaching and serving as a thought partner to draw out the creativity and resourcefulness of my clients. Reflecting on my own experiences and my work as a consultant with a range of organizations, I recognized the urgent need for more direct support for people working in social change.
To hone my skills and better meet that need, I completed the Coaching for Transformation certification with Leadership That Works and now offer individual and group coaching for people working in and around non-profits and social justice movements.
I also film and edit short documentary and educational videos and have worked as a content developer, producer, project developer and project manager on access to justice applications, other social software, and videos.
